Years of Activity
The Angelo Bianchi Bonomi Foundation and the Hemophilia and Thrombosis Center of the Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico

Since the 1960s, when it was founded by Professors Nicola Dioguardi and Pier Mannuccio Mannucci, the Angelo Bianchi Bonomi Hemophilia and Thrombosis Center has been involved in the diagnosis, treatment, and research of blood coagulation disorders causing hemorrhages (hemophilia, von Willebrand disease, platelet disorders, rare coagulation disorders) and thrombosis (myocardial infarction, stroke, venous thromboembolism).
Historically located in the buildings of the IRCCS Ca’ Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico Foundation at Via Pace 9 in Milan, the Center was established thanks to the contribution of the Angelo Bianchi Bonomi Foundation, from which it takes its name and which has supported its growth together with numerous other funding sources.
The Center is engaged on several fronts: the clinical field, understood as prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of patients suffering from hemorrhagic and thrombotic diseases; research; and education.
The staff, coordinated by the Director, Professor Flora Peyvandi, is composed of hematologists, internists, biologists, biotechnologists, laboratory technicians, statisticians, and epidemiologists who carry out their activities through contracts with the IRCCS Ca’ Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico Foundation, the University of Milan, and several private foundations.
Today, after more than 50 years of activity, the Center has achieved excellent results in all its fields of activity, reaching important goals. Evidence of this includes the numerous publications (more than 2,000) in the leading international scientific journals of internal medicine and hematology (including Lancet, New England Journal of Medicine, Annals of Internal Medicine and Blood), as well as the funds obtained through participation in competitive project calls, both institutional (IRCCS Ca’ Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinico Foundation, Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, University and Research, AIFA, National Institute of Health, Lombardy Region, European Community, etc.) and private (Foundations and Associations).
The Center is one of the most renowned in the world for the diagnosis and treatment of hemorrhagic and thrombotic diseases and is a reference center for numerous national and international institutions and federations.
In this regard, the following recognitions should be mentioned:
- Reference Center of the Lombardy Region for patients affected by congenital hemorrhagic diseases (MEC);
- Accredited Center of the Italian Association of Hemophilia Centers (AICE);
- Founding Center of the Federation of Centers for the Diagnosis of Thrombosis and the Surveillance of Anticoagulant Therapies (FCSA);
